Welcome to the website of the Stowmarket Model Railway Club
We hope that you will be able to find all the information you require in these pages, but should you have any further questions or comments please let us know - the addresses can be found on the Contacts page.
The club was founded in 1977 as 'Stowmarket Railway Club', but in 2020 it was decided to change the name to 'Stowmarket Model Railway Club' in order to better fit with the interests of the majority of the members.
The aim of the club is to stimulate interest in both Railways and Model Railways, and it meets every Tuesday evening throughout the year at our clubrooms near Stowmarket.
The club has an extensive library of books and DVD's on railways and railway modelling which are available for members to borrow, and we are also compiling an archive of information on the changing local railway scene over the years, which concentrates on the section of line between Needham Market and Haughley Junction.
Our next event will be our 'Train & Model Fair' at the Needham Market Community Centre.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, please note that this event will be held on SUNDAY 25th FEBRUARY 2024.
On the modelling front, we have an 'O' gauge Exhibition layout called Nile Street Basin which has attended many shows in the area, and is currently undergoing refurbishment, a new 'OO' gauge layout under construction, an 'N' gauge layout that was donated to the club is awaiting refurbishment and one of our members is also planning a new 'HO' American layout.
We also have a multi-gauge Test Track which is permanently set up in the clubrooms.
The club also organises two Train & Model Fairs (sometimes known as Swapmeets) in March and October, and in 2024 we are planning to return to organsing a Model Railway Exhibition, which will be held at the end of June. Details of these events can be found on the 'Train & Model Fairs' and 'Exhibition' pages of this site.
If you would like any further information about the club and it's activities, please email us by using the links on the 'Contacts' page and we will endeavour to answer your queries. .
New members are always welcome, so if you would like to come and see what we get up to, please drop us a line and we will let you know how to find us.
